Alright people... my residency application is due September 1st. I need a personal statement but I'm struggling. I've been thinking about what it must be like for the people on the other end of this deal. Most are looking for 3-6 people they feel like they can work with and will work well with the other residents for 3 years. All they have is a picture of me, my CV, my transcript and this personal statement. So... I really want to convey my personality through the personal statement if possible.
What are your thoughts? Ideas for topics? What do you think they should know about me?
Comment here on the blog or email me... kaylan-lawson@ouhsc.edu. I would absolutely love love love to hear your thoughts.
Hi Mama. I miss your face terribly. I hope everthing has gone well, I'm sorry I've been so out of touch. It's been a crazy month, lots of travel for work.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you know how hard it is for me to really hash out good ideas for such serious things like personal statements when I'm not in the car with a cigarette, but I have a few thoughts. This might seem so basic, and I'm sure you've already thought about this, but I think that your motivations and your history make up the best depiction of you. Why did you go to medical school - besides your childhood history of wanting to be a doctor. What brought you to this point and what decisions were the harest for you to make? Why were they the hardest?
Maybe it's just a jumping off point and maybe it's all nonsense, but I just think that you could set yourself apart by not just TELLING them who you are, but giving them the back story on what MADE you who you are. And who you are is pretty freakin awesome! Love you, can't wait to see you!
I am with Kacy here...I am much better under a tight deadline and a glass of wine. :) You know we can hash this out in no time. Haven't we done it before a million times over?!?!?! There should be some kind of personal statement producer on the internet, like a FB application or something. Now that is a million dollar idea. How much would you pay for that? Yea, a lot, I know! So just come on home lady. We are ready for you! Also - your street looks great. But, also a bit scary. I hope Mom doesn't see that pic. Or at least, until you are home. Ha!
