Dartmouth

I know what you're thinking... where exactly is Dartmouth? Let me just tell you... it's far. It's tucked away in the mountains of New Hampshire where the western border meets Vermont in a small town called Hanover. While there is an airport, most people fly into either Boston or Manchester, NH and then drive in. I opted for option #2 and I am so glad I did. First of all, we all know how much I love to drive and see the countryside and this was definitely some beautiful countryside unlike anything I've seen before. Roads carved through mountains with rock cliffs covered in waterfalls of ice from the run-off of the snow. Beautiful lakes, frozen over, covered with snow and thick, tall trees covering every bit of the land. The program was well worth the trip as well. It had everything I could ask for - all the specialties divided into separate clinics, concentrated derm path rotations, good didactics, accomplished faculty, tons of continutiy clinics, my favorite EMR, flexible electives, busy consult service, fellowship opportunities and then of course, autonomy. Still the most impressive... the people. The program is small with 6 residents but there are close to 10 full time faculty and they all get along really well. That was obvious. Plus I liked them. I think I would be really happy working with them. Of course I expected it to be impressive just because it was Dartmouth but I didn't expect to like it that much. I suppose the only question is... will I be happy in Hanover? I love small communities and it was beautiful but it's still New Hampshire.

Lebanon... another town that basically attaches to Hanover. Not as nice but still cute. Much more affordable to live in.
